To rein a horse is not only to GUIDE HIM, but also to control his every movement. The best-reined horse should be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance and dictated to completely. Any movement of his own must be considered a lack of control.
All deviations from the exact written pattern must be considered a lack of/or temporary loss of control and therefore a fault that must be marked down according to severity of deviation. Credit is given for smoothness, finesse, attitude, quickness and authority of performing various maneuvers, while using controlled speed which raises the difficulty level and makes the event more exciting and pleasing to watch as an audience.
The Prince George Reining Association was established in 1992 when Danny and Pam Morrison were approached by the BC Reining Association requesting that a chapter be established in Prince George. This task was undertaken by the Morrison's and the enthusiasm from the local horse community was overwhelming.
The PGRHA has since grown from an instructional format with in-club competitions to a financially stable association that hosts 3 NRHA approved shows each year. The PGRHA Spring Slide, Ride N’ Slide and Fall Slide. We have an Open & Non Pro Derby, Open & Non Pro Futurity, High Point and Saddle Series.
We make a concerted effort to not forget our roots by hosting and sponsoring various clinics, winter riding sessions and educational seminars. We continue to offer beginner and intermediate classes with modified patterns in all our shows, so that reiners of all levels can show and compete in an environment that is comfortable and welcoming.
Our membership can vary year to year but averages about 100 members. Our membership and show attendance continues to grow each year but we continue to keep the small show feel to our shows. The PGRHA executive team and show committee is solely based from a team of volunteers that work very hard to ensure each show run smoothly.
